The final Crafted with Code showcase of the 2025 season, The Edge of Innovation, highlights projects where trusted partnerships lead to purposeful technology. As organizations start adapting to more intelligent systems, it’s clear that collaboration is the key to creating innovative sites rooted in sound human judgment.

Now in its sixth year, Crafted with Code is a collaborative showcase created by WP Engine and the Webby Awards. It celebrates the innovation, craftsmanship, and collaboration behind some of the web’s most extraordinary sites built on WordPress®[1].

In the 2025 season, 30% of all Webby-recognized websites and mobile sites were built on WordPress, and 43% of those WordPress sites were powered by WP Engine. Our tools and platform are enabling brands and agencies to push technical boundaries while maintaining the human touch and authenticity audiences crave.

Code Redefined: Intelligence with intention

The smartest digital experiences aren’t the ones using all the latest tools; they’re the ones where intelligence is embedded with intention. This showcase highlights how organizations are collaborating with partners to build smarter sites that push technical and creative boundaries for a specific purpose.

“Innovation in this AI-driven era is about more than just adopting the latest tech. Builders have to choose the right tools if they want to solve real human challenges and create deeper connections,” said Regina Yuan, WP Engine Director of Brand. These projects are smart and performant, but it’s the human choices and judgments that went into each build that made them worthy of Webby recognition.”

The following participants, each powered by WP Engine, show how collaboration laid the groundwork for bold design and technical excellence at the 2025 Webby Awards.

Mozilla Builders by Upstatement

Webby Nominee | Corporate Social Responsibility

A new epicenter for the AI renaissance

Mozilla has long been a leader in the developer community, but the team needed to establish a clear presence in the AI space. They tapped agency experts at Upstatement to create a digital home where the developers working on open-source AI projects can publish their stories, share ideas, and build community.

With a tight timeline and no margin for error, Upstatement chose proven technology to support cutting-edge content. By using WordPress and WP Engine, the team ensured that the site could handle the intense traffic spikes without a dip in performance.

The Webby-nominated Mozilla Builders site connects the open-source builders fighting for a human-centered AI future and maintains the technical stability expected of a global leader like Mozilla.

Farm Africa by The Web Kitchen

Webby Nominee | Charitable Organizations/Non-Profit

Narrative and performance excellence drive a 94% increase in online donations

Farm Africa needed to better communicate the life-changing impact of its work. With the help of The Web Kitchen, they shifted focus from traditional “charity appeal” tropes toward a uniquely hopeful and energetic brand narrative.

The new, Webby-nominated site uses simple animations and iconography to bring the vibrancy of the communities they support to life online. Its modular block system allows the Farm Africa team to easily customize content for the organization’s many initiatives.

This intentional approach to digital storytelling, built on a performant foundation, led to a 94% increase in donations through the site. By creating an immersive storytelling experience, The Web Kitchen helped Farm Africa secure the funding it needs to continue powering transformational programs across the continent.

Skidmore, Owings & Merrill by Code and Theory

Webby Nominee | Architecture, Art & Design

Architectural excellence in the real world and online

As one of the world’s top architecture firms, Skidmore, Owings & Merrill (SOM) lacked a digital presence that truly reflects the scale, artistry, and ambition of its global projects. Code and Theory stepped in to transition the firm from legacy architecture to a more stable foundation.

The challenge was to support a massive library of high-resolution architectural photography without sacrificing speed and create a structured content system that connects projects to the people and research that made them possible, all in one cohesive environment.

The new experience puts performance first, with optimized media handling and a content architecture that reframes how SOM’s work is understood. Now, it’s more than a digital project catalog; it’s a coherent expression of the firm’s approach to great architecture.
