What’s New in Genesis 3.1

The latest version of Genesis, the world’s most popular theme framework for WordPress, was released today with improvements to One-Click Theme Setup, new exposure to the WordPress API, and fresh opportunities for customization. Genesis 3.1 is full of features that have been requested directly by members of the Genesis community. Genesis is constantly being updated to reflect the needs of designers and developers building beautiful sites with WordPress. Genesis 3.1 comes on the heels of the Genesis 3.0 release in June, which brought AMP functionality directly into Genesis core, and made it easier for developers to build AMP-compatible themes and sites. 

Continuing the tradition of adding updates that bring more agility to the process of creating and implementing digital experiences, Genesis 3.1 offers new ways for users to expedite workflows, customize the site or page building experience, and push the boundaries of what’s possible in WordPress.

Genesis Starter Packs

Genesis themes come equipped with One-Click Setup, which allows users to set up a fully customized site—that looks like the theme demo—in a matter of seconds. Now, Genesis users have the option to select which starter pack they want during the One-Click Setup process. The starter packs empower users to select the demo content during the setup process, and in turn, the content, plugins, menus, and widgets are automatically imported to the theme during the setup process. 

Exposure to the WordPress API 

By popular demand, Genesis 3.1 includes endpoints for the WordPress REST API. This opens opportunities for developers building headless WordPress sites with Genesis, and assists integration with external applications and services.

Additional New Features

Genesis 3.1 also comes equipped with new features that make customizations easier in the editor: 

• Easy manual removal of Genesis schema.org markup 
• Genesis sidebar in Block Editor—gives you new options to hide titles, breadcrumbs, and featured images for an individual post or page, as well as easier access to the page layout and custom class options
• New Footer text field
• Removal of the unused noodpand noydir SEO settings 
• Better SEO options for site titles on static homepages
• Added ability to output custom logos (requires theme support)
