WP Engine Employee Spotlight: Libby Baker, HR Generalist

In this blog series, we talk to WP Engine employees to learn more about their roles, what they love about the city they work in, and hear from them what they like most about working at WP Engine. In this interview, we talk to Libby Baker, the HR Generalist at WP Engine’s headquarters in Austin. 

Can you explain your role at WP Engine?

I am the Sr. HR Generalist at WP Engine and sit on the People Operations Team. As an HR Generalist, I touch all areas of the People Operations function as well as different areas of the business. My role includes everything from benefits and new hires to international immigration and legal compliance. I help support our HR Business Partners as well as employees, leaders, and managers across the organization. I am responsible for our global benefit plans across all locations and am in charge of evolving and creating competitive benefit plans for our employees as the company continues to grow. I am also the regional specialist for our EMEA and APAC teams and focus on supporting them from a People Operations perspective.

What is your favorite thing about working at WP Engine?

Getting to work with and learn from some really amazing and talented individuals every single day.

Why are People Operations important to WP Engine?

People Operations is important to WP Engine because we exist to support all elements of work life and work to inspire employees and champion our values. We support all stages of the employee lifecycle and help our employees, teams and leaders achieve their objectives.

What is the most challenging part of your job?

Working with employees and vendors in all different time zones sometimes creates a bit of a challenge!

Have you always lived in Austin? What brought you here?

I am actually from London! I grew up in London, spent two years in Dallas and six years in Austin. I went up to Chicago for college and after graduation decided I missed the warmer weather and Southern charm and came back to Texas. I met my husband in Austin and we recently got married and bought our first home here!

What are some hobbies you enjoy outside of work?

When I’m not at work I am usually reading a good book, baking something delicious or traveling to see family and friends.
